There are many good reasons to book a holiday in the Algarve. It has a reputation for being one of the best family holiday areas in the world. It has easy access from numerous UK airports, good weather all year round, ranging from mild winters to glorious summers, and a beautiful natural environment with some of the most beautiful and cleanest beaches in Europe. For the SPORTS LOVER, there are over 30 golf courses, many amongst the best in Europe, hosting national and international level competitions. Numerous other sports activities and entertainment are also on offer including water sports, tennis, water parks, horse-riding, jeep safaris, spa treatments and hiking in the Serra de Monchique mountains. There are also many good shops and markets to explore as well as a wide range of restaurants offering both local and international cuisine.
Portugal beaches, and particularly those along the Algarve, are always highly rated in 'Best European Beach' guides, and receive glowing accolades from online travel site TripAdvisor amongst others. They rated Falésia beach in Albufeira as the best Portuguese beach in Europe, ranking 18th in the top 25 European beaches. Another Algarve beach, often ranking high in the European Travelers’ Choice Beaches Awards’, is Ponta da Piedade in Lagos. In the Top 10 Portugal Beaches ranking, Algarve beaches occupy most of the positions. These include Falésia, Olhos d’Água, Ponta da Piedade (Lagos), Praia da Rocha (Portimão), Praia Dona Ana (Lagos), Praia da Luz (Burgau) and Praia de Odeceixe (Aljezur).
You may well have your own favourite, as there are beaches to please everyone, from those along the western coast with large waves for surfing, to those more sheltered sandy coves and long golden stretches along the central and eastern Algarve. Almost all the beaches have facilities and watersports for all the family to enjoy, but equally if its some rest and relaxation you are after, then there are plenty of peaceful spots to discover.
