Our Experience of Staying at Four Seasons Fairways, Quinta do Lago

Part of our job at Villascapes is knowing what it’s like to stay at the various resorts we recommend to you – it’s a tough job we know!  But seriously we wouldn't recommend anything we hadn't tried and tested. 

Our last trip to the Algarve was in October and we stayed at Four Seasons Fairways on Quinta do Lago. We've stayed here many times over the years, but it was great to experience, on this occasion, the new pool and clubhouse refurbishment. 

RESORT UPDATE: We have been working with Fairways for more than 20 years and we like the way the resort works hard to regularly update and improve its accommodation and amenities.  We are particularly impressed with their redevelopment of the clubhouse and pool area which opened at the beginning of the 2018 summer season. 

Fairways now offers a heated outdoor pool which will improve the experience of staying on the resort in the shoulder seasons.  In addition to the new bar and poolside restaurant, there is also a more formal restaurant, Amara, which offers contemporary cuisine with a Portuguese influence.  The restaurant offers great views out over the golf course. We were one of the first to try out this restaurant, and it is definitely worth a look!

OUR VILLA: We stayed in a hillside apartment with its own private pool and terrace.  It also had the advantage of being extremely close to the onsite supermarket and the clubhouse.  Even at the beginning of October the weather was warm enough for us to eat all our meals outside on the terrace. Indeed on a few days we were glad that the dining table was positioned in the shade as it can be really quite hot in October.

We did have trouble lighting the barbeque one evening until Nichola (the practical one!) realised that there was an automatic ignition and we didn’t actually need the matches that had been left in the villa.  We have filed that piece of info away for future reference!

RESORT FACILITIES & NEARBY: The resort itself has its own tennis courts, outdoor and indoor pools, gym and health spa.  In addition, its central location puts it in close to all the facilities Quinta do Lago has to offer.  Within a 5 minute walk or so you can be chilling out at Koko, one of our favourite places to stop for lunch or an early evening cocktail.  The resorts of Four Seasons Country Club and Vilar do Golfe with their restaurants open to non-residents, are also within walking distance, as are the mini golf centre, the driving range and the championship Quinta do Lago golf course (green fee discounts available). 

Further afield the beach, the new Health & Fitness Club - Campus, the Lake with its watersports centre, and the Ria Formosa Natural Park all offer additional activities as well as places to eat and drink.  Hire a car for a few days and you can visit the local market in Loule, go on a boat trip from Faro or Olhao or go shopping in Tavira or Vilamoura.

If we’re feeling energetic we like to start the day with a walk to the beach.  The walk to Quinta Beach takes a good 30 minutes from Fairways but it’s well worth the effort (or otherwise hop down there in the car in a couple of minutes; you’re on holiday after all!).  Or why not hire a bike from the Fairways reception and you can have a lovely easy cycle down there. Early in the morning you can find your own spot to watch the beach and the Ria Formosa come to life.  Then it’s back to the villa for a cup of tea and breakfast and to plan another busy day.
