TRY THE ALGARVE OFF-PEAK
At Villascapes we generally like to travel to the Algarve outside the high season – especially during April/May and October/November. From a business perspective the resorts tend to be quieter at this time of year and so there is a wider range of properties for us to view. But there are so many other advantages to travelling at this time and we want to share these with you.
Villa with Heatable Pool, May 2018
Better weather than at home: the difference in temperature between the UK/Ireland and the Algarve is probably at its greatest in the April/May and October/November periods. When we travelled in May this year the temperature was around 26-28 C. However busy we were, we always tried to find time for a swim at the end of the day and it was always warm enough to do so.
Many of the resorts such as Four Seasons Fairways and Four Seasons Country Club have heated outdoor pools, which also helps to extend the season, and there are a number of villas in our portfolio, which have heatable pools, so again that stay in May and October becomes very do-able. Travelling in October which we often do, always feels like an extension of summer, before that descent into winter! We’ve even been sun bathing on the beach in November before, so it is definitely worth thinking about!
It’s cheaper and there are more flexible change-over days! – Obviously outside the high/peak season of June - August, the prices are lower so you get more for your money. There is also a better chance of getting a mid week departure or those odd dates which go with those cheaper flights you’ve found!
It’s easier to be active: It’s warm but it’s not too hot which makes that bike ride in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, the walk on the beach or that game of tennis more tempting.
Easier to Get Around: With fewer tourists around, it’s the perfect time to do a little sightseeing. Take a boat from Faro, Olhao or Tavira and visit the islands. Head down to the Western Algarve to view the rock formations that are so typical of the coastline. Drive up towards the Spanish border and explore historic towns and beautiful beaches. Or go inland to Loule and shop at its market. Whatever you do at this time of year, the traffic is lighter and the parking easier.
Less Crowded for Eating out: At this time of year it’s usually easier to get that table in your favourite restaurant without booking well in advance. On our May trip we were able to book tables a few hours in advance which means we didn’t have to decide at breakfast where we wanted to eat that evening.
Free resort parking: And here’s another bonus, there are no parking fees on Quinta do Lago or Vale do Lobo from October to May. That means you can park for free down by the beach or in the resort car parks.
